When it comes to special events, Orlando is the capital of the United States. There’s nowhere in the country where there are more entertainment options for both adults and families.
That’s true year round, but it gets even better in the summer.
There are a multitude of events planned for Orlando in the summer, both at the big amusement parks and in the city itself. Here are a few of the choices.
Orlando Summer Events: Theme Parks
There are numerous special events at Orlando’s big theme parks, in addition to all the usual entertainment.
Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival (now through May 30). If you’ve been you know that Epcot – and Disney World as a whole – have amazing floral arrangements pretty much everywhere you go. This festival includes not only amazing topiaries but food from outdoor kitchens supplied by Epcot’s famous restaurants featuring cuisine from around the world.
Summer Nights at Seaworld (June 11 – Aug. 14). During these summer nights, Seaworld offers special shows (including Shamu), fireworks displays and also rides that stay open later.
Independence Day Celebrations. Every major park – including Universal Studios, Seaworld and Walt Disney World – holds a special July 4th event that includes amazing fireworks displays that are probably better than what you remember from your hometown. Um, unless you grew up in Orlando.
Other Orlando Events
The theme parks aren’t the only places with a lot of events.
Caribbean American Heritage Month Festival (June 26). Held at the Orlando Fashion Square Mall, this festival features music, food and culture from the Caribbean islands. There’s even a kiddie’s carnival parade.
Rum and Reggae Fest (June 11). This is basically what it sounds like. Only in Florida could you have access to some of the best rums on the market, all of which can be sampled at this festival. The downtown event also features live reggae music.
Van’s Warped Tour 2016 (July 2). There are a bevy of concerts all summer long, but this might be one of the biggest. It will be held at Tinker Field. Other shows include Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin
Experience at the House of Blues on June 6, Ellie Goulding at the CFE Arena June 4 and Selena Gomez at the Amway Center on June 10,
This is just a taste of the events on the horizon in Orlando. Of course, there are also plenty of opportunities to create your own fun with the area’s party rental companies that allow you to turn your own backyard into an amusement park.
Whatever you decide to do with your Orlando Summer Events, enjoy the Florida sunshine and the summer break!
